Lonely Goat backs Keep Britain Tidy’s million mile mission to clean up the country

Lonely Goat Running Club has joined forces with environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy for Great British Spring Clean 2021.

In the past 12 months, people have relied on the places close to home – the local park or beach – as somewhere to escape to, to exercise and to play. As runners, taking to the streets or exploring the trails, we have strong relationships with our local environment.

This is why, in addition to supporting Keep Britain Tidy through our 1% for the Planet pledge, Lonely Goat is supporting its Great British Spring Clean campaign. We are asking all our members to do their bit and clear up the litter that can blight the places we run through.

Great British Spring Clean

The campaign, which runs from 28 May – 13 June 2021, calls on the public to pledge to clean-up and help the charity achieve a million miles of litter-picking.

This year’s campaign comes as Keep Britain Tidy has reported a massive increase in the number of people who have started litter-picking during the various lockdowns. It has seen the number of #LitterHeroes grow by a third in less than 12 months.

How Lonely Goats can help

Keep Britain Tidy have a goal of achieving a million miles of litter-picking during this year’s Great British Spring Clean campaign. As the largest running club in the UK, we reckon we can make a big contribution to this target.

Of course, being a running club, we decided to set ourselves a running themed goal – a thousand marathons’ worth of litter picking. If enough Lonely Goats, with their friends and family, take part in the Great British Spring Clean, we can do it.

Just think of all the litter we could remove from our local environments if we covered 26,200 miles. By working together, we can achieve this goal!

Make a positive difference

The Great British Spring Clean, now in its sixth year, brings together individuals, community organisations, businesses and councils to make a difference to the environment on our doorstep. In 2019, more than half a million #LitterHeroes collected just under a million bags of litter, weighing around 4,308 tons.

Keep Britain Tidy Chief Executive, Allison Ogden-Newton said:

The Great British Spring Clean would not be possible without the support of all our community partners, including Lonely Goat Running Club.

We are so grateful for all your support as we embark on our #MillionMileMission to come together – be it in person or in spirit – to show some love for the places that have mattered to us during lockdown.
