Jason Farrand: Goats on the Run

***UPDATE 1 March 2026: HE’S DONE IT! 28 marathons, 737 miles, 28,000ft of elevation.***

The great thing about running challenges is they’re all personal. Whether you’re striving to get to the end of Couch to 5K, run an ultramarathon, or something in between, we salute all the Lonely Goats who are out there achieving your goals. Sometimes though, we spot a member of the Herd doing something a little out of the ordinary…

Introducing, Jason Farrand, multi-marathoner

Jason Farrand, who many Goats in the Facebook Chat Group will recognise as a fan of very long runs, is attempting to run a month of marathons. In Jason’s own words:

From 1st February, I’ll be taking on the biggest running challenge I have ever attempted: 28 back‑to‑back marathons, running a full marathon (26.2 miles) every day throughout February for a total of 733.6 miles, or 1180.6 km.

Why is he doing this? In memory of his two dogs and in support of a charity that helps re-home snowdogs:

This challenge is in support of 8 Below Husky Rescue and is deeply personal to me, inspired by my two huskies, Kye and Demon, who I sadly lost to cancer. In their memory, every mile is a way of giving back and supporting the incredible work the charity does to give huskies a second chance at life.
We’re just coming up to halfway, so there’s a still a lot of running left for Jason to do, but here are a few updates from his progress so far:

Day one

That’s the start of my challenge done. 1st of 28 Marathons (one per day throughout February, 4 weeks of marathons back-to-back) raising money for 8 below Husky Rescue. Today’s route was a “little” hilly with over 1200ft of elevation. Getting the tougher routes out the way. Over to Hollingsworth Lake (10 miles) then 3 laps around the lake (6ish miles), then the 10 miles run back home, finishing on Marathon Distance.

Day three

In uncharted waters today as previously I’ve never been crazy enough to do 3 marathons on the bounce before. So today was a first and it actually felt okay-ish. So far, so good. Aimed for a flat-ish run today along the Rochdale canal, even though still over 1100ft of elevation

Day eight

Today’s Marathon #8 was done down in Liverpool. I incorporated the Runthrough Aintree Half Marathon into today’s Marathon. Got down in Liverpool early so I could get some miles done prior the event. Managed to get 10 miles done prior (warm up ). Then the main event was 4 Laps around Aintree Racecourse. Finished the event in just over 2 hours (02:01’19”), which isn’t my best half marathon time, but I’ll take that especially in the middle of my 8th back to back marathon. Then did another 3 miles after the event to finish on my marathon distance and that’s another one done. That’s my quickest marathon too so far in this challenge (04:13’10”) – flatter overall and the atmosphere of the event most likely. All in all, was nice to go somewhere different, nice change of scenery and at least get a medal (albeit a half medal) for today’s effort.

Struggles so far have included runs on minimal sleep and the heavy wind and rain we’ve had so far this month. Highlights have included canal tow paths, trig hunting in country parks, Old Trafford and Etihad stadiums, and even Stockport’s version of Niagara Falls!
